Hey everyone, it’s Jamie.

I hope all is well. I had my art show on May 7th, and it was actually not too bad. Unfortunately, I made the tough choice yesterday to quit my job due to a chronic/recurring illness, and I have a theory it may stem from the abuse I endured in my last relationship, on top of stress from this pandemic. I’m aiming to do more with my photography, so here’s to hoping something good can come out of it.

    Hi Jamie,

Congratulations on your art show! I am positive you’re very talented and it was all deserved. It is ok to quit jobs. Jobs are able to be replaced and I am sure you’ll be able to find another one. I know having a chronic illness is hard. There are many resources available for you. It is horrible that you had to endure something like that from your ex. But, remember to improve on you need to get help. Self-care is an important part of improving, so never doubt it. I have heard that photography is such a good comping mechanism, so yay. Thank you for sharing, and keep us updated on your photography!

    Hi Jamie!
I’m glad the art show went pretty well! I’m sorry you had to quit your job because of health issues. the good news is, you saw the need to take care of yourself. If you’re run down physically, then you won’t be able to preform the job duties to your fullest. I’m glad you went to the doctor, & the blood work showed you do have something physically going on. Since they have found an elevation in your blood count levels, they can help treat you better. I hope you get feeling better soon! good luck with your art work. I hope things work out for you!

    Updates:
Thank you for the wellness wishes. I had to go to the hospital on Friday to get blood work done, and apparently my platelets are extremely high (they’re supposed to be between 100-400 and it’s 476) which indicates an infection of some sort, and they found traces of blood in my urine. I am waiting to hear back to go over the test results with my doctor, so please send me positive thoughts..

    Hi Jamie,
I’m glad to hear that your art show went well! I’m sorry to hear about your health and having to give up your job. I’ve been in that position before where I’ve had to leave a job due to health reasons (physically and mental) and it’s hard to give that up and accept that it’s what best for your health. But I agree that it will give you time to focus on yourself, work more on your photography, and I do believe you’ll be a better, healthier person as a result. This doesn’t mean you will never work again, it’s just for now to give yourself time for you.

    Hey Jamie,

Glad to hear your art show went well. I think you should definitely pursue it further, especially if it’s been a positive force in your life. I am sorry that you have to quit your job. If it is related to the abuse you endured from your last relationship, it may help to speak to a mental health professional, so that you can have some clarity. It also just helps to have someone who you can speak to who will unconditionally support you.

I hope you have a great week. Take care.

Hi, Jamie. So glad to hear the art show went well! Congrats! I’m sorry to hear that your chronic illness lead to quitting your job. I hope you can get some time to heal. I totally agree that stress and trauma can manifest in physical ailments and there’s actually a lot of scientific research on the topic. Hoping something good can come out of it too, like spending more time on your photography. It helps me to focus on the positive when I’m going through tough times. Writing gratitude lists sometimes helps me to shift my perspective too. Hang in there, and keep shooting!

Hi, Jamie Marie! Welcome back! Thanks for sharing updates with us. I’m sorry to hear about your illness. Trauma and abuse have so many long-lasting and negative effects on the brain and body. My dead fiancé’s parents were in perfect health. When he passed, his father’s health declined rapidly; he’s now fighting bone cancer, among other health issues. My fiancé’s mother had to get surgery on both knees, and her mental health has been in decline ever since her son’s death.

I’ve watched a lot of TED Talks on how childhood sexual abuse can cause life expectancy to be lower and chances of addiction, mental health issues, and physical ailments to skyrocket.

Since you have more time, you may want to read The Body Keeps the Score. I haven’t read it yet. (I want to order it through Amazon.) However, I hear it’s a groundbreaking book on how trauma lives on in the body, even if the mind can’t remember.

It may be of interest to you. I don’t know what you’re struggling with, but maybe it could shed more light on how this abuse has possibly impacted your physical health.

Great news about the photography!! Maybe there is a way to show off some of your work on here. What types of photos do you take? Nature, animals, scenic views? Or are you an aspiring photojournalist? I know there are so many different avenues you can explore in photography. Have you ever thought about submitting your work to an art gallery? I’m sure you have talent, and your talent can grow even more now that you can devote more time to your passion.

When you’re ready, come back again to share. I appreciate your updates, and I’m glad to hear that you are trying to destress (e.g. quitting job and focusing on photography). You deserve to be happy and to be at peace.

Seneca says, “Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.”

Surviving trauma and abuse is no small feat. Trying to thrive amidst life stressors and a pandemic, while battling the after effects of your traumas, is no small feat, either. You are very brave. Whatever illness you have, I know you’ll beat it.

Take care, Jamie Marie. Hope to hear from you soon.
