I just wanted to say thank you to a who have commented on my last post (pieces of the puzzle). Your comments mean so much to me! Thanks for all the encouraging words! I have since talked with my therapist & shared my feelings from my last session. I am going to remain with her, but not use emdr. If that becomes an issue again, I will revisit that possibility then. For now, I am spending my time & energy in the present. I have decided to put those memories to rest. Someone in their comment reminded me that I am worthy. I can’t change what happened, but I can spend time focusing on the positives of today.  

I have tried to comment on each one who has responded to my story, but for some reason, I was only able to on a couple.

    I didn’t realize you had posted a follow-up since your previous post. That’s great to hear that you’ve been making decisions about next steps. It’s so comforting to have a plan and not have things up in the air, isn’t it? You have to do what is best for you and to trust your gut. I think your therapist was just looking out for you and making recommendations, but you know your limits so stick to your guns. Take care!

    I’m glad you talked to your therapist about your concerns and that you were heard! It’s great that you get to continue the therapy that you are comfortable with, and still have that opportunity later to try EMDR if you decide that is what you want to do.

    I’m happy that we can help you. Whoever commented that you are worthy, they are right. You are worthy and you deserve to be happy and do what you want. It is your life, so don’t let anyone stop you from being you.
    It’s good you were able to talk to your therapist and they listened to you about not wanting to do EMDR.

    Hi, dzreid! Thank you for your thank you! I’m glad you’re still going to see your therapist, and that you received encouragement on this platform.

    EMDR helps a lot of people, but it’s not the perfect treatment for everyone. I’m glad you’re doing what’s best for you. Recovery is so difficult, and it never seems to be linear. In my experience, it feels more like riding waves – a constant up, down and all around. For me, therapy is like the surfboard that keeps me steady in the middle of a stormy sea. It sounds like you have a really caring therapist who helps you; I would want to stay with her too. 🙂

    I am so glad to hear! I think it is great that you could openly talk to your therapist about your concerns. I am glad that you are going to stay with her, but not use emdr. Maybe in the future, it is a possibility. But for now, I think it is great that you just continue to together.

    I was a little late to reading and responding to your Pieces of the Puzzle post (just read/commented this morning) but I am happy to see this update post. I am so glad our responses helped you decide your next steps and be reminded that you are indeed worthy. EDMR will always be there if you change your mind. But you should be proud of yourself for weighing your options, advocating for yourself, and doing what is best for you.

It’s great that you worked out a solution and figured out what to do if this becomes an issue again. I think it’s awesome that you’re focusing on the present. I find that being in the moment helps us because it narrows our focus to what’s right in front of us. We’re not stuck in the past or the future, which makes the present more enjoyable. It can be easier said than done, which is why I’m glad that you’re committing to it. I love that you’re focusing on the positive things, and I encourage you to keep doing it. You are worthy and important, and you can do this!

    I have been following your story since your first post and I just wanted to say how happy I was when I saw that you posted an update! I am glad you are continuing to speak with your therapist and are reaching out others for help and support. Focusing on the present is what I believe the key to happiness is and what a lot of people (including me) struggle with. You can’t control the past or what will happen in the future, but you can control what happens now. When I notice my mind wandering to thoughts like these I just try to take a couple of deep breaths and bring myself back to my surroundings and what I am doing at the present moment. Meditation has also helped a ton! Bets of luck with everything and I hope to hear more updates soon!
