Relatively positive update

Hello everyone, just thought I would give you guys an update on my life.

Last Tuesday was probably one of the worst workdays I’ve ever had.  I had to help clean up a co-worker’s mess and he barely contributed, several customers got mad that we didn’t sell anything and yelled at me as if I’m trying to sabotage them, and a blackout occurred and we weren’t allowed to close the store and go home early.  I was so angry that I ended up lashing out at almost everyone around me.  It’s a miracle that I’m still friends with some of my co-workers.  Thankfully, the co-workers that I yelled and cussed at forgave me.

The past few weeks, including Tuesday, have been rough.  But thankfully, Wednesday and yesterday have been better.  I actually called out of work Wednesday and rested at home, which helped a lot.  Yesterday was a better day at work, and today my paycheck was pretty big.  I also got a raise at work which will help a lot.

I’m continuing to work on my podcast, which has been very helpful for my mental health since I’m spending more time with friends and talking about what I love.  I also recently bought Christmas gifts for my family very early and I hope that they’ll like them.

Today I am doing well.  Hopefully the next few days will be good as well.

Hey, Colton! I’m so glad you’re doing better! Work sucks but it feels like Heaven when the check is big. What’s your podcast about? Keep working on it. What helps my depression is cooking and baking. I feel accomplished at the end, but the good food is what’s most important. 😉 Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and keep on pushing on.

    Hi Colton95,
Thanks for providing us an update. I think with so much going on in today’s society, the stressors of everything can get to the best of us all. It sounds like you had a difficult day or so, but then others days seemed good. I think when times are stressful, everyone at some point reaches a breaking point. If that means calling in to give ourselves a break & rest then I believe once in awhile it’s ok to do so. I’m glad you got a raise, I bet that made you feel somewhat better! Your work has paid off & even though you had a bad day & took it out on coworkers, they still are able to see good in you! I hope you continue to find a happy place when the stressors become too great!

    Hey colton95,
Hope you are doing well. Thanks for updating us. It is always nice to hear from you. Do not be so hard on yourself, sometimes things happen that are out of your control. Working can be stressful on its own and customers can be some of the most disrespectful people, but do not take it personally. I currently work in a restaurant and can understand where your frustration comes from. I am happy you were able to keep your friendships with your coworkers. Although Tuesday was not the best I am glad that Wednesday and Thursday were better for you. It okay to call off once in a while to take some time for yourself. You work hard and deserve that break. I am extremely happy you received a raise; it is always nice to receive a bigger paycheck. I am glad working on the podcast has helped your mental health. I am wishing nothing but the best.
    Take care,
    Yailin

    Hi colton95,
I’m so glad you are having some good days and even called off to rest. Self-care is so important and very needed at times. I am sure everyone will like your gifts, and appreciate the gesture itself so much. Good luck with your podcast!! Wish you great days ahead.

    Hello Colton,

I’m sorry to hear about that rough time at work. Working retail right now during the pandemic is already stressful enough, I hope there aren’t any more of your co-workers messes that you need to clean up. It’s great to hear that you took a self care day! It’s also great to see that your still working on your podcast. That sounds like a lot of fun. Great to hear the positive update and that things are going well!

    Hello Colton95

Wow impressive on the purchase of the Christmas gifts, I have not even begun to wrap my brain around the fact it is a few weeks away – way to go. Also, I am truly sorry you had a rough day at work it sounds like you really stepped up as a leader to take control of a bad situation but I’m sorry it caused you stress. I applaud you for recognizing your need to take a Mental Health day on Wednesday to focus on you, that is very important.

Also, I couldn’t agree with you more. Spending time with friends and talking is some of the BEST therapy in the world! I hope you continue working on your podcast and continue to share with us.

    Continue your self-care!

    Hi colton95,

Thank you so much for giving us an update! It is always nice to hear from you. I am so sorry to hear about your day on Tuesday, I know you handled it the best that you can, I’ve been there in a stressful work environment and it is absolutely awful. We have all had moments where we have lashed out, I am happy your coworkers understood. It sounds like you were having a rough week overall but you did the right thing by calling in to work and resting, I am very proud of you for that! It can be hard to put your well being first and it takes a lot of strength to start doing that, good job! I am glad to hear that your podcast is going well and helping with your mental health and keeping you connected to your loved ones. It sounds like you are doing a lot of work to be doing well which again takes a lot of strength. I am sure your family will love their Christmas gifts! I am glad you were doing well yesterday and I hope that it continues to be that way 🙂 Please feel free to come back and give us an update whenever you would like!

    Hey colton95!

I’m glad to hear about the good days and the rest you’ve been able to get. Sometimes we just have to take it one day at a time and hope for the best kind of day. Getting worn out by the bad days certainly drains you, so I’m glad you have good things to focus on! Wrapping presents is my favorite part of the holidays, so I hope you get to have some fun with that too 🙂

    Hey colton95,

Thanks for giving us an update. I’m sorry work hasn’t been great. I think I would have been similarly frustrated in the same situation. We forget sometimes but we are all human, not robots. I’m sure part of that played into the forgiveness from your coworkers. I hope you’re not being too hard on yourself about that. And I am happy to hear you gave yourself a day off! It seems like that was well-deserved and I’m glad it helped you rest and feel better. It sounds like you’ve been productive and engaged with things that make you happy, and that is lovely. I hope the next few days are good for you, too 🙂

    Sending you love and support,

Thanks for coming back to update us! Ugh… coworkers and customers being the worst on the same day. Customer service jobs are truly so difficult and I commend you for keeping your head up after the fact and recognizing how difficult of a day it was for you emotionally. What is something you can do in the future if a similar situation happens to help you from lashing out at your coworkers? Would you feel comfortable asking for more help? It’s a wonderful thing that you took time off for yourself to recover. Podcasting is an excellent way to be creative and get yourself out there. You reminded me to start shopping!!! I hope you’ve had an excellent few days. Keep yourself breathing when you go to work. Update us soon<3

    Hi Colton95,
Thanks for sharing this update with us. I can completely relate to you in regards to cleaning up someone else’s mess at work, it’s frustrating not only because not only are you doing someone else’s dirty work but you were not even receiving help for it. With that being said I think your coworkers understood why you were upset, but good for you for taking the day off maybe that is what you needed to feel a little better. No one is perfect and sometimes emotions are inevitable so don’t feel guilty for feeling what you feel in the moment. Congratulations on your race by the way that’s a big win for you! good luck on your podcast I’m sure it’ll be a great one. I too have been buying early Christmas gifts, it’s the best feeling! I hope you find tour self having a great upcoming week, take care and stay safe!

    colton95,

Your coworker should have helped clean the mess he created and the customers had no right to yell at you for something that’s out of your control. I’m thinking that the blackout affected your ability to do your job; it’s strange that they didn’t send everyone home.
Since you began to cuss and yell at your coworkers, I can tell that it was a difficult day. None of us are perfect and controlling our anger in certain situations isn’t always easy.
Good on you for taking Wednesday off. It sounds like you recognized you needed some time away from work and I’m glad you were able to have that time to recuperate.

    Hello colton95,

I think you lashing out was understandable. Your rough day makes sense given all of the many minor and major inconveniences. It is truly upsetting when customers are rude because it is obviously not your fault, so I totally understand where your frustration is coming from. I think that you need to give yourself a lot of credit, because your reaction is one that reflects your frustration. You were frustrated and became quite upset with those around you, I think that is completely understandable. So, try and not over think and analyze that. The reason your co-workers forgave you was because they probably felt like your anger was justified.

I am very happy to hear that you are working on your podcast, which is clearly something that has been great for your mental health. It is important during these times that we do have these activities that we can fall back on. Taking the time to focus on these types of projects is very beneficial since it can make you feel fulfilled. Glad you could also spend time with friends.

Take care and I hope the next few days will be good for you!

Thank you for the update and it sounds like you have several things to be uplifted about! Being aware of your mental health is so important and I’m incredibly impressed that you knew a day off of work was in YOUR best interest. We call that a Personal Mental Health Day at my house! I also love to hear you acknowledging the hard day but being able to turn and recognize the positive days is such a strong character trait; sometimes we dwell only on the negative but don’t seek to find the ‘glass 1/2 full’ – you should feel very proud of this trait.
