More updates

Well, more updates on therapy and things.
I finally went over to Social Security on Wednesday to file for short term disabilty, but I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m just trying to do what my doctor recommends, you know?
As for therapy, my mom told her parents and they believe I need to see a psychiatrist, and not a church counselor, which in a way, I can see their point. So far, I feel I haven’t really received much help other than hearing “God is with you” and “It’s not your fault.”
I need someone, or something, that can help manage my PTSD, and learn to cope.
Wish me luck, and I’ll keep everyone updated..

    Hi Jamie Marie,
    thanks for updating.
    I think psychiatrist will help.
You are working hard to get better and that’s awesome. It isn’t easy. but you are doing it.

    Jamie Marie,
Thanks for the update. I hope things go smoothly with S.S. I will say it can be a very frustrating process and don’t get discouraged if you get denied. Most people get denied at first. If that happens look into a lawyer and apply again. Just giving you a heads up. I’ve known many people on disability and that is normally what seems to happen. I have PTSD as well and I found when looking for a psychiatrist/psychologist to make sure they had a focus in ptsd. This helped a lot bc they approached my ptsd differently than a counselor who didn’t have a focus in it. I felt the same way you do right now so this helped a lot. Also they had different methods and techniques on how to cope with ptsd. I also started a type of therapy called EMDR. This has helped me a lot. I am glad you have a strong support system. I hope you keep staying strong and that you find someone who is able to help your ptsd. Much love

    Hey there.

Always happy to hear from you! I think their suggestion to see a psychiatrist is a good one. No matter how well-meaning a church counselor may be, you have very real and difficult struggles (such as PTSD) that a trained professional can likely help you with more. I’m happy to hear your mom and her parents are supportive here! It sounds like they really want to help you, and you deserve that.

Thank you for updating us. I have my fingers crossed for your disability request to go through as well.

    Jamie,

From your previous post, I could tell there was some reluctance to file for disability. After filing for short-term disability, how are you feeling?
I’ll keep you in my thoughts. You got this.

    Hey Jamie Marie,

Thanks for the updates! I’m really glad you’re taking your doctor’s advice. While church counselors may be great, sometimes you need something a little different to help work through your problems. It may take a while, but it’s super important to find someone that understands you and the things you’re going through. Good luck, things will work out! Stay strong <3

    Dear Jamie Marie,
Thank you for keeping us involved in your life; it is nice to know how those who share their stories with us are doing. I agree that a professional will be better able to help you with your healing and recovery. Even if/when you go to a psychiatrist, you need to find one that fits you because it is extremely important that the person understands you. Please come back and let us know how things are going for you.
    Sending you love and strength,
    Roxie

Thanks for sharing an update with us, Jamie Marie. I agree, I think a non-faith based psychiatrist will be much more helpful with some of your more medical needs, like PTSD. Let us know how that goes!
