Hi, I wanted to share with you guys some songs I’ve written about my experiences with sexual assault. For me it can be comforting to find music that I identify with. I’ve noticed there isn’t a ton of music about trauma and the after math of it all, so my hopes with this channel is to create a safe place for people to know they are not alone and can find comfort.

The first song I want to share a link to is an encouragement to everyone who’s ever been called a liar when they’ve come out about the abuse.

They say “You’ve made it all up and that you need to be quiet. Now’s not the time to speak your mind. Don’t you realize you could ruin his life?”

Yet the truth remains between him and you. They weren’t there, so they can’t say what he did or didn’t do. When they tell you that you are lying think to yourself or say, “Since you weren’t there you can’t know and if you claim to— the only liar here is you.”

Not A Liar:

The next song is about my experience of not disclosing about the abuse for a long time because there was no one to tell.

What’s Been Done in The Dark:

The last song is personal about a specific time I was assaulted and all the emotions I felt.

    Hi, peacehopemusic!

Thank you for sharing your music with us. Your song “Not A Liar” resonates with me, especially the last line, “Since you weren’t there you can’t know and if you claim to, the only liar here is you.”

    Hi peacehopemusic,

You are definitely doing a great job at creating a safe place. I wish I could sing! Sometimes I feel like I’m Beyoncé and then I snap back into reality. Haha. You are very talented ! I am sorry that these things happened to you and I understand everyone copes in their own way, you are doing it in such a positive manner. I truly respect that and wish you the best for your future and what it holds for you. Just like you said under your video, you deserve to be valued, cherished, and loved and you are. Thank you for sharing and being a motivator to many that have had traumatic situations such as yours. Stay strong 🙂

    Hi PeaceHopeMusic,
I know it has been some time since you’ve posted this, but I have really enjoyed all of your other songs and wanted to come check these out! I think it is so amazing that you are able to turn your experiences of assault into something so beautiful. And it is even more inspiring that you are willing to share these to help other people cope with their trauma as well.
You have such a talent and I am so glad that you share it with us all. I am looking forward to even more music coming from you <3

    Dear Peacehopemusic,

I think it’s beyond beautiful that you can turn something so painful into such beautiful lyrics. You really have a talent! I honestly can deeply agree with you about there not being enough music or lyrics about trauma. Different forms of trauma too. This is such a wonderful coping mechanism. Thank you so much for sharing our music with us. Please never stop writing and making music. It is such an important step to open up about our traumas, and to do it in such a beautiful way is amazing. Thank you!

    Warm Regards,

Wow let me just say I think it’s amazing that you are writing music to share your experiences, and you are right I don’t even think I have ever heard music that relates to peoples experiences. It makes me happy that you have chosen to share your experience through music because I believe this will help a lot of people that can relate, and even to the ones that don’t. You are truly so inspiring, and thank you for creating such beautiful art.

Thank you for sharing your music with us. I think this is such an important and healthy way to advocate for yourself and other survivors. As a music therapist, I know how beneficial this type of expression can be and I’m so glad you found a way to share your talent and story with the world. I think these songs will really help other survivors.

Thank you for sharing your story, your voice, and your talent with us. Keep advocating and sharing these songs. You’re right – these types of stories are not shared often enough through music or other means, so it’s so incredibly vital to keep advocating in this way. Please keep us updated and if you need anything at all, please reach out to us. We’re always here for you. Stay strong and keep fighting. <3

    Hi, peacehopemusic:

Thank you so much for sharing your songs with us! You’re very talented and I appreciated how “What’s Been Done In The Dark” was artistically “blacked out;” It added to the depth and meaning of the song.
I am sorry that you’ve had people in your life who don’t believe you. I believe you! I think the fact that you were able to take those feelings and create such a beautiful, empowering, and honest song is amazing!

As an abuse survivor myself, these songs really touched and resonated with me. I agree that there aren’t a lot of songs about the “trauma and aftermath of it all;” and I think the fact that you want to share your musical gifts with others and offer a safe space to come together and heal and find comfort is wonderful and inspiring!

Please continue to share new songs and update us with how you’re doing! Thank you!

    Hi peacehopemusic,

Come to think of it, I haven’t heard much music about dating violence, either until you shared these! I remember my campus actually did a songwriting workshop for sexual assault awareness month, and that was pretty much it. I have heard “Love the way you lie,” which is more so about domestic violence. The message didn’t ring strong for me until I saw the music video for it. (It’s the one with Eminem and Rihanna that came out like a decade ago.) Music is such a great outlet to express yourself and I encourage you to keep doing it!

    Keep rocking and being creative!

I hope you continue to write more and continue to heal. You are so brave. Keep writing and singing your songs. And know we are here for you either to listen to your music or anything else you may need.

I agree that there isn’t too much music that discusses the aftermath of sexual violence; I’m thinking that the people who come across your music will certainly find comfort. I wish that you would have had someone to confide in about the abuse sooner.
