Song: Long Way To Happy
Album: I’m Not Dead
Release date: April 4, 2006
Why this song was chosen: This song is from Pink’s album “I’m Not Dead”, which in an of itself speaks of strength, hope, and redemption in just 3 small words. She says the album title is “about being alive and feisty and not sitting down and shutting up even though people would like you to.” (Source: Wikipedia) That, in and of itself is exactly why AVFTI exists. The song featured is one where she recounts her own sexual abuse and speaks to her abuser, but mainly she discusses her journey afterward. And that is why we chose the song. She sings that “It’s gonna take a long time to love, it’s gonna take a lot to hold on. It’s gonna be a long way to happy, yeah. Left in the pieces that you broke me into. Torn apart but now I’ve got to, keep on rolling like a stone.” She reminds us that the road to recovery is not always easy, but we must keep moving forward.
What the artist has to say about the song: The lyrics to Long Way To Happy are based on a poem about sexual abuse Pink wrote when she was thirteen years old. She says “I know a lot of people that have been abused and/or molested and/or fucked over by someone close to them. And I’m no exception. And that’s that song.” (Source: Wikipedia)
