Song: Bleed For You
Artist: Hidden In Plain View
Album: Life In Dreaming
Release date: February 22, 2005
Why this song was chosen: This song was chosen because while it does tell the story of an assault, I really appreciated the fact that it was written from the perspective of an outsider who wants to “take your pain away…scream for you…bleed for you.” I think that’s where a lot of people stand. They know someone who has a story but they don’t know how to respond. We say all the time that you don’t need to have a story to have a voice, and this song really illustrates that all you need in order to be there for victims of sex crimes is love, compassion, and sympathy.
What the artist has to say about the song: While there isn’t much available as far as what the band has said about the song, it has been reported that HIPV guitarist Rob Freeman knew 2 people who were raped and wrote this song based on their stories. (Source: Songfacts)
