Today marks the fourth year A Voice for the Innocent has been a part of the Bashful Ostrich 5k race: a race 16 years running that’s mission began as a way to support survivors of sexual abuse. They have provided a positive environment for survivors to connect with family and friends for awareness and support.
AVFTI was joined by two wonderful organizations that share the same passion. The Women’s Crisis Center is an accredited 501(c) (3) nonprofit social service agency committed to the empowerment of survivors of domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. The Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence (OAESV) has wide-ranging expertise in prevention of sexual violence and providing trauma-informed response with survivors. OAESV staff travel extensively throughout Ohio to meet the needs of rape crisis programs and allied organizations in Ohio. We have partnered with each of them in past events and were thrilled to have them by our side once again.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The rain held off and there was just enough breeze and no blazing hot sun. After the race, everyone was invited to stick around for great food (free smoothies and walking tacos!), music, and entertainment for our littlest runners. Most importantly, everyone was there supporting each other. Whether you’ve been directly or indirectly affected by sexual abuse at some point in your life, this is the race to come out for. Help us by running, hoping, and healing.
